John Kent May

John Kent May, 64, of Colorado, passed away on December 10, 2022. He was predeceased by his father John Robert May and mother Judith Rea May. He left behind his wife of 45 years Amanda May (Mandy) and his four children, oldest daughter Jessica Naylor (Brandon Naylor), only son Kris May (Lauren May), middle daughter Lindsie May, and youngest daughter Kelly House (Brandon House). He loved his grandkids greatly, who admired him: Sidda May, Jackson Naylor, Alexiya May, Chloe Naylor, Braxton House, Brock House, Elliot May, Elsie House, Nolan May, and John Douglas Larsen. He graduated from Green Mountain High School where he made lifelong friends and met the love of his life and best friend, Amanda. John signed up for the Marines in December, 1975 and shipped to boot camp from Colorado to California in the Bicentennial Platoon on July 4, 1976. He was meritoriously advanced in the Marine Corps where he was an expert marksmanship instructor and senior instructor of the Communications Electronics School. On July 29, 1982, John was medically retired from the Marine Corps and moved home to Colorado where he furthered his education and career and grew his family. John received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Regis University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. John began his career as a telecommunications engineer, installing most of the telecom networks in the buildings in downtown Denver, the Tech Center, Gart Brothers and even in Oprah Winfrey’s Telluride mansion. John worked diligently as a manager, receiving numerous accolades during his many years of employment. For nine years, John owned his own business and then returned to the corporate world in 2000. A large majority of his corporate career was spent managing the network operations centers for the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Coast Guard, sheriffs’ offices, world embassies, TSA, and setting up the network for the National Space Center in Washington DC. John finished the last 10 years of his profession managing the Network Operations Center for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Arizona. He retired from his career on his 60th birthday in 2018. Hunting with his boys and grandkids was something he greatly looked forward to every year. The Bledsoe’s Ranch in Hugo, Colorado was one of his favorite places on earth. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, hiking, welding, working on cars with his son, remodeling homes and trailers, but most of all, he loved being with his family. John was also an extremely accomplished and self-taught woodworker. Many of his pieces were made for family members, and they will be passed down and cherished for generations. Estes Park holds many memories for the May family; it is where John and Mandy were engaged, where they went on their honeymoon, and where they spent precious family vacations and holidays together over the years. John was a simple, humble, loving, kind man who unceasingly provided for his family which he valued more than life itself. He created a beautiful home with his wife Amanda, and they spent their life together building, creating, laughing, camping, hiking, and traveling. His last bucket-list wish was to get his entire family back together in Colorado. While suffering from late-stage cancer, he managed to organize the sale of two houses in Arizona, move two families back home to Colorado, purchase a house and move in. All of this he did with a great attitude and typical huge smile, though he was suffering greatly. His last gift to his wife was shutters and wood floors in the new house. John was the kindest, most generous man we have ever known. May he rest peacefully. A memorial service will be held 11 am, Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Graveside Service with full military honors will be held 11 am, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Ft. Logan Cemetery, Staging Area A.
