Evelyn Joyce Barnes

Evelyn Evie Joyce Barnes passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2013 under Pathways Hospice care, following an age related decline in health. Evie was born in Long Beach, California on August 23, 1926 to her parents, Lester and Anne Mauck. She was raised in Long Beach, California and attended, junior college where she studied accounting. Evie was married to Daniel Barnes and stayed at home to raise their three daughters while residing in California, Ohio, and New Jersey. In 1974 Evie ventured to relocate to colorful Colorado to reside with her two youngest daughters. She enjoyed living in Fort Collins for the past 40 years. For 14 years she worked at CSU. Initially she worked in the Accounting Department and then her last nine years were spent in the Exercise and Sports Science Department. Following her retirement, in 1987, more fun began! Some of Evie's best times were spent on the golf course, hiking, playing bridge and bingo, traveling, doing needlework, and spending time with her family. In addition, she volunteered her time at Poudre Valley Hospital and Our Savior Lutheran Church. For 20 plus years Evie modeled personal perseverance and advocacy for herself and other low vision community members. For the last 5 1/2 years Evie embraced living at the Winslow Senior "Resort", in Fort Collins where special friendships and comfort prevailed during her final years of life. Her family and loved ones can hardly say enough of her independence, tenacity, courage, love, and infectious smile. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Harold Mauck and sister Lou Ann Carter. Evie is survived by her three daughters: Cathie Hubert Ray Hubert of Fort Collins; Glenda Barnes Richard Seiler of Bozeman, Montana; and Betsy Barnes Terry Killin of Castle Rock, Colorado. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Jessica, Ashley, and Chelsea and two great grandchildren: Cora and Leon.
