January 7, 1933 - December 9, 2020
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend was taken from this life when COVID-19 “came in the front door and grabbed him.” Robert Dean Haynes, 87, passed from this life into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 9, 2020 in Fort Collins, Colorado due to COVID-19. He was born January 7, 1933 to Doris Adkison and Eldridge Haynes in Fort Collins, Colorado. He graduated from Fort Collins High school in 1951 and enlisted in the US Navy. He married Mary Louise Bateman in 1953 and was later divorced. He married June Garretson in 1962 and they shared 58 wonderful years. He lived many years in Rawlins, Wyoming where he was well known for his sense of humor and kindness. He always had a kind word and smile. He served faithfully as a member of France Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Jaycees and the Elks. He was employed by Robert Jack Smith and Associates and enjoyed many life-long friendships. Most of all, he was a loving and supportive husband and father. His children all remember him as a patient teacher -fishing, driving, map reading, hunting, and silly songs. He taught all of us a great love for the outdoors -many great memories of camping and fishing. Cathy remembers hunting for arrowheads and learning how to read a topographical map. He taught Jim how to shoot a gun and we had many rabbit dinners thanks to their prowess. Our Dad was always our champion and we all knew that he had our back. Nancy always knew how to push his buttons and frequently did! Dad kept every apology to remind her of his love for her. Diane is grateful that Dad retained his patience! He taught her much from puzzles to games, to learning to drive. He moved back to Fort Collins in 1988 where he worked as a Land surveyor for Larimer County. He made many new friends and rekindled old friendships. He was a member of Timnath Presbyterian Church where he served in many positions but most enjoyed being the official hugger. Bob loved his dogs and shared his home with many of them through the years. He was the world’s greatest armchair quarterback and also enjoyed baseball and other sports. He was a huge fan of country music and especially loved the old classics. He loved working his crossword puzzles and word jumble every morning and instilled that love in each of his children. He was an avid reader and always had a stack of books by his chair. He is survived by his wife June Haynes, his children Catherine (James) Tiller, Utah; James (Sherri) Haynes, Washington; Nancy (Lawren) Green, Utah; Diane (Will) Smith, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, and three great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, a great-grandson and many beloved dogs including Ranger. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Timnath Presbyterian Church, 4020 Main Street, Timnath, CO 80547.
