December 30, 1961 - March 1, 2020
Renita Twerefour, loving mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and valued Fort Collins community member, left our earthly world on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the age of 58, to join her loving husband of 34 years, Sam Twerefour, parents, Richard and Linda Bryant, and grandmother Olive Musgrave. Renita was born on December 30, 1961 in Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up, Renita adored her surviving siblings, Anthony Bryant, Richard Bryant, and Tonya Patrick. Always the protective older sister, she loved and supported them unconditionally throughout their lives. Affectionately known as “Nita” by her family, she touched the lives of all that knew her, including her nieces and nephews by instilling in them the importance of family connections. The light of her life was her daughter, Ama Kissiwah Twerefour. Renita and Sam raised their daughter with the utmost love in developing her faith, excellence in education, and service to her community. God and family were their focus in raising their beautiful daughter. Renita and Sam moved to California in the early 1980’s where they lived and worked for several years, before moving to Colorado Springs, and eventually settling in Fort Collins to raise their daughter. Renita was very involved in her community and advocated for inclusivity by serving on the Northern Multicultural Commission to ensure Fort Collins addressed diversity within the community. Beyond the Commission, she loved to shop and challenged retail stores to provide diverse dolls for her daughter and other young girls. In the community, she welcomed African American families to Fort Collins, informing them of where to get their hair done and the best places to find soul food ingredients. Along with Sam, she welcomed the Ghanaian community to their home, cooking for them and creating a community. She was always willing to share her vast knowledge of the contributions of African American populations with her daughter’s schools, friends, and families. Renita enjoyed meeting new people, spending time with family, and traveling. Many of her travels included trips to Cleveland to attend family events or just to spend time with family. With her family in Ohio, Renita enjoyed staying in touch with everyone by phone as often as possible. She especially enjoyed conversations regarding current events, politics, and sports. She enjoyed reading, and often sent books as gifts for birthdays or other special occasions to family members and friends. Renita will truly be missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her for her loving and giving personality, beautiful smile, and happy laughter! Viewing for Renita will be from 12-1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel with Graveside Service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery. *Please note that due to health concerns with the COVID-19 Virus, Renita's Funeral Service only has been cancelled and will be conducted at a later date.
