Patty Hurd

Patty June Hurd, 85, died peacefully on October 6, 2015 in her hometown of Fort Collins, Colorado. Her strength and sense of humor sustained her, family and friends through a five-year struggle with cancer. Born on June 17, 1930 to Ezra and Martha Slinkard in Rocky Ford, Colorado, she was the youngest of nine children, seven girls and two boys. She grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, where she married Daniel Victor Hurd on September 9, 1950. Patty and Dan met in the fourth grade and spent 65 years together in marriage and friendship. Patty went to work as a telephone operator after graduating from Grand Junction High School in 1948. She continued working there for 35 years until her retirement from AT&T in 1983. She was proud and critical of AT&T, but always staunchly defended her fellow workers if criticized. In addition to her working career, Patty raised her family in Grand Junction and Fort Collins. She took pride in maintaining a home that her family and friends thrived in. She was a great cook and wonderful hostess making anyone and everyone feel welcome. Many people have the fondest memories of life under her roof. Patty is survived by her husband Dan, three children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Patty and Dan’s son Doug and his wife Barbara live in Charlottesville, Virginia. Their son Daniel E. Hurd, his wife Molly and their son Samuel live in Boston, Massachusetts. Their daughter Emma J. Moffett, her husband Richard and their son Jackson live in Sterling, Virginia. Patty and Dan’s daughter Cindy Pault and her husband Jerry live in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their daughter Jessica Pault-Atiase, her husband Selasee and their daughter Yletivi live in Boulder, Colorado. Their daughter Jordan Pault-Babeon, her husband Daniel, their daughter Cameron and their son Colt live in Boulder, Colorado. Their son Jacob Pault, his wife Susan and their son Kash live in Windsor, Colorado. Their daughter Annie Pault lives in Fort Collins, Colorado. Patty and Dan’s daughter Dani Andrews, and her husband Rick live in Parker, Colorado. Their son Taylor lives in Denver, Colorado. Their daughter Jennifer lives in Parker, Colorado. Patty is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, and by many beloved friends. Patty is predeceased by all of her siblings except Violet Randall of Grand Junction, Colorado, and by all of her sibling in-laws except Marlene Hurd of Grand Junction, Colorado. Patty had many pets during her life, mostly cats and dogs. She loved them all. She was especially fond of Maggie, her cat that preceded her in death. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Patty Hurd at the home of Cindy and Jerry Pault, 3222 Taliesin Way, Fort Collins, Colorado from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, October 11, 2015. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Food Bank for Larimer County, the Larimer County Humane Society, or the First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins.
