Nancy Moore

Nancy Shine Moore, adored wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Aug. 17, 2007, after a rapid illness. Nancy was born Feb. 19, 1948, in Oklahoma City. Her family moved to Fort Collins in 1960. She attended Lesher Junior High and graduated in the Class of 1966, from Fort Collins High School, where she was a cheerleader and champion tennis player. She went on to attend Colorado State University, where she earned a degree in history and a teaching certificate and made lifelong friends as a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. During her junior year, Nancy took a semester off to travel through Europe. That adventure inspired many more travel adventures throughout her life. After graduation and a cross-country road trip, Nancy taught high school in the tiny town of Jonesport, Maine. She then returned to Colorado to tutor the students on the Vail development ski team, where she reconnected with her future husband. Nancy married Tom Moore on Sept. 7, 1972, in a small ceremony at her parents' home in Evergreen. They both continued to work in Vail before returning to Fort Collins in 1975. While remodeling their historic Mountain Avenue home, they found out they were pregnant with their first child. Nancy was a wonderful and devoted mother to her three children and a second mother to many others. Along with being a full and active partner in family businesses, she was also an inexhaustible volunteer at Saint Joseph's Elementary, Lincoln Junior High and Poudre High School, where she worked on fundraisers and school programs. She never missed her kids' many swim meets, tennis matches, horse shows and theater productions. Nancy was also a dedicated caregiver to the wonderful older members of her family. Her most treasured moments were the vacations she took with her family and friends. Whether it was the beaches of Hawaii and Mexico, backpacking through Europe, riding horses through Wyoming, or art camp in Nebraska, she loved to be away with the people she loved. Nancy earned her pilot's license and bought a Beech Bonanza in 1996. Although she started later in life, she was a natural pilot who enjoyed barnstorming cross-country in her vintage plane. She was an artist, ice skater, pianist and horsewoman. She loved camping, traveling, Pilates, the beach, the mountains and acquiring new hobbies. She was a coffee enthusiast and a solar-powered sun-goddess. Nancy is survived by her mother, Winifred Shine; her husband, Tom Moore; her children, Gus, Sadie, and Sally; Gus' wife, Sarah; her sister, Penny Hill; and her nieces, Jessica, Alicia, Megan, and Julia. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Harris Shine. She will be missed for her energetic and free spirit, her love and friendship, and the joy she brought to those around her.
