Mercella Marie Barela

Our beloved Mercella Marie Barela entered her eternal home in heaven on July 15, 2019 with her loved ones by her side. Mercella was born August 13, 1935 to Mary and Manuel Barela in Fort Collins, CO. She worked for Larimer County Department of Social Services as an Administrative Assistant for twenty-five years where she was well liked and respected by her peers and anyone whom she came in contact with. She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching movies and TV shows especially the Catholic channel and game shows, listening to music, and most of all being with her family. Her infectious laugh and sense of humor earned her many friends. Her sisters were her first and best friends; her twin Percella Romero (Ben); Barbara Gavaldon (Tom); Judy Solano (Chuck); Jessica Feltz (Mike); and close sister-in-law Carmen Barela. She loved her brothers; Manuel; Frank (Priscilla); Savino (Carmen); John (MaryJean); Bert (Terry) and close brother-in-law Mike Feltz. She had many nieces and nephews who will always remember her for having the biggest heart, the sweetest smile, a gentle touch, honest advice and lots of hugs and kisses. Mercella’s greatest loves, pride and joy were her daughter Jan, her son-in-law Ty Smith Sr. along with her grandsons Ty Jr. and William who brought so much happiness to her life! Mercella was their biggest fan! Although Mercella did not have sons of her own, she always considered her nephews Mikey and Dennis as her boys, but we were all her favorite and she was ours! Mercella was a treasure and gave us moments of laughter with her sharp wit, sarcasm, entertaining sense of humor and jokes. Our memories of her will warm our hearts forever! In addition to her family she was blessed with a wonderful group of women that were lifetime friends: Theresa Meza, Barbara Tuttle, Betty Espinoza and Lupe Jaramillo. Mercella was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Manuel Barela; brothers Manuel and Frank; twin sister Percella; nephew Michael Feltz Jr.; and grandnephew Levi Feltz. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 4-5 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel followed by a rosary on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 5:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel and a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 9:30 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
