Marjorie Tate

Marjorie Tate, 80, of Fort Collins, died Feb. 28 in the Hospice Wing of McKee Medical Center in Loveland after a short hospital stay. Marjorie Markovetz, the second child and first daughter of Edward Markovetz and Margaret Bohselich Markovetz, was born in Aberdeen, S.D., on July 2, 1927. For the first nine years of her life, she lived in the small town of Beebe, S.D. The family then moved to Gettysburg where Marjorie attended school, graduating from GHS in 1944. Following graduation, she attended business college in Mankato, Minn. Returning to Gettysburg, she was employed as a secretary for a local law firm where she worked until her marriage to Dr. James Tate of Hayes Center, Neb., in October of 1950. The couple made their first home in Gettysburg, where their four children were born. Married 58 years, the couple lived in South Dakota, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas and Montana, spending most of the last 35 years in Fort Collins. Beginning in the 1970s, Marjorie worked for the Fort Collins K-Mart as a cashier and bookkeeper until her retirement. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Marjorie was a parishioner of John XXIII, where she participated in various study and prayer groups. With her husband Jim, Marjorie was an avid bridge player, enjoying the game for more than 55 years. She had attained the rank of Life Master, and had played in tournaments in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Nevada. In addition to reading, solving crossword puzzles and journaling, Marjorie also enjoyed music in many forms: singing, playing the piano, and dancing. A woman who found great pleasure in entertaining family and friends at her home, Marjorie also liked cooking and baking and was appreciated for her Bohemian kolaches. Marjorie is survived by her husband, James, of Fort Collins; daughter, Diana, and husband, Robert Richter; son, John, and wife, Younghee; son, Scott, and wife, Cynthia; brother, Vern Markovetz, and wife, Kay; grandchildren, Sarah, Caleb, and Jason; great-granddaughter, Selah; aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents; brother, Allen; and son, Mike. Marjorie was a woman whose life centered around her faith, her family, and her friends. She was loved by many and will be remembered for her kindness, her enthusiasm for life, and her unwavering choice to face all obstacles with a spirit of optimistic hope. A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on May 1 at John XXIII University Center in Fort Collins with Fr. Don Willette as celebrant. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
