John R. Nortier

John passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 15, 2014 with his loving wife, Molly at his side. He was born on June 5, 1932 in Rochester, New York to Isaac and Isabel Nortier. He was the third of three sons. He grew up in East Rochester, graduating from high school in 1950, and at that time was already holding a steady job with the Eastman Kodak Company. When he turned 18, he joined the Air Force and served for four years in places as diverse as Denver, Colorado and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He ended up falling in love with Colorado, and upon leaving the Air Force, returned there to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Besides earning his degree in political science and leading the Young Republicans Club, he met and fell in love with the beautiful Marlene Uhrich. During their courtship, he nicknamed her "Molly" and the name has fit her well to this day. He and Molly married on December 18, 1960. After he finished his education, they moved to Rochester, New York where his job at Kodak was waiting for him. They had their four children there, and in 1971, when Kodak opened a plant in Windsor, Colorado, they transferred back to the home they have loved ever since in Fort Collins. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Molly; daughters, Paula Dave Fester of Redmond, WA, Jennifer of Breckenridge, CO; sons, Ed of Broomfield, CO, and David Maria of Fort Collins. He also has three granddaughters, Sara Mark Tom of Seattle, WA, and Mari and Jenna Fester of Redmond, WA. John was known as a deeply caring man with a servant's heart. Upon retiring from Kodak where he had worked as a Product Engineer for over 36 years, he dedicated many hours each week to delivering Meals on Wheels in the Fort Collins community and serving faithfully in numerous capacities at Plymouth Congregational Church. John was an avid sports fan, especially of any sport associated with Colorado State University. He and Molly attended countless football, basketball and volleyball games always cheering on their beloved Rams. But John's favorite times were when his family was gathered together, particularly at Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday of the year. And we are all especially thankful to have been able to call him husband, father, and friend for all these years! A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. A light luncheon will be provided immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of John to either Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society
