Joe "Nick" Mitotes

1927-2008 In the wee hours of Sunday morning, our Lord Jesus came for our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather and husband. We rejoice, for today we know that our Dad is in heaven. Nick was born on Feb. 11, 1927, in Taos, N.M. He married Mary Polly Salazar on Feb. 25, 1954, at Holy Family Catholic Church. They have seven children, Virginia Mitotes, Eileen Mitotes-Avalos, Steve Mitotes, Linda Pundt Roy, Eleanor Mondragon Tom, David Betty Aragon and Roxanne Trujillo. There are nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Nick worshipped at Templo Betel Assembly of God Church, now Agua Viva on 9th Street in the Andersonville neighborhood. In his early life he served in the Army. After the Army he did crop farming and working hauling logs and hauling cattle. He also worked on the railroad. In his later life he worked for Forney's Industries. He then worked for CSU and retired after 21 years of service. After he retired he worked part time doing maintenance for Fort Collins Airport Express. Nick enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar and his harmonica. He loved telling stories and joking with his family. He loved reading his Bible. He will be remembered for his kind and loving way. He always had a big smile for everyone. His legacy lives on in each one of his children, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nick was a simple man but a proud man who taught his children to love God's word. He gave them a strong foundation of values and morals and respect. He was a great caretaker of his family. His family is proud of the man Nick was. To see Nick, look into the eyes of his children, and you will find him there. For his wife Mary, he was the love of her life. He will be greatly missed, but there is comfort in knowing God's promise that one day they will be reunited. He is preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the 5th floor of Poudre Valley Hospital for all their help and support. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Templo Betel Assembly of God Church, 600 Ninth Street. Interment with military honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Danny Olivarez will officiate at the services.
