James F McIntyre, DDS of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Applewood, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025. He was a dedicated husband, and father, grandfather and great grandfather; a man of integrity, loyalty and principle. Jim was born September 21, 1931 to Perry McIntyre and Lila Fredrickson McIntyre in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He attended Juneau High School in Milwaukee where he enjoyed running track, playing basketball, and playing the trumpet in the band. The deep friendships he made in high school lasted throughout his life. Jim was a dedicated student, and with the encouragement that, “Jimmy would make a great dentist”, he enrolled in the dental school at Marquette University. While living at home, Jim worked hard to get through school, delivering flowers, and cleaning vats at the Miller Brewery. After Dental school, Jim enlisted in the Air Force which broadened his experiences tremendously and he once again developed some wonderful friendships. Towards the end of his 3 years in Wiesbaden, Germany, Carol Tinder joined him to be married on January 18, 1958. They returned to the States with a newly purchased Convertible VW Beetle. Jim and Carol put down their roots in Denver and Jim began working at Denver General Hospital as a dental intern while waiting to take the state boards. He established his dental practice in the Republic Building in Downtown Denver. It was in the west Denver suburb of Applewood where they began to raise their two daughters, Sandy and Heidi. They were active members of the United Church of Christ, where Jim often played the guitar. They were early members of Rolling Hills Country Club where they enjoyed golf, great food, music and dancing as they established yet another group of wonderful friends for over 6 and ½ decades. For the next 33 years, Jim built an amazing practice . He always took weekend and evening calls from patients in need and would meet them at the office to see what he could do to get them through the emergency. His patients loved coming to the office where they would be warmly greeted. During their appointments, they were often treated to one of Dr. Mac’s latest joke. His patients came first, with his loyal staff right behind. Jim was an active and awarded member of the American Dental Association. Once again, it was the strong friendships built during this career that defined Jim’s life. When Dr. Mac decided to retire, Jim looked for a great young dentist to take over his practice. He trusted his patients into the capable hands of Dr. Tom Oulette. Along the way, Jim and Carol had a wonderful opportunity to purchase a condo with friends in Aspen, Colorado. This provided many family memories of skiing, Thanksgivings, and friends enjoying time together. As the family grew with sons-in-law and grandchildren, they chose a place in Breckenridge to be their mountain getaway. Throughout their life, travel was highly valued and a favorite way for them to spend time together. Their travels took them to explore 6 of the 7 Continents of this great world with many return trips to Europe which they loved. They took their daughters and their families to Europe, as well as frequent trips to Hawaii. Here was another chance to build family memories. In retirement, Jim played lots of golf. He was an Ambassador at the Denver International Airport for 17 years, where he often got to use his fluent German. He enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and later in life his precious great grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife Carol of 67 years, daughters, Sandy Ernest (Bill), and Heidi Brewster (Greg), grandchildren, Hannah (Spencer) and Colin (Payton), and great grandchildren Fiona, Charlotte, Pierce, Lennon and Lucca. He was preceded in death by his grandson Parker. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Lodge at Mackenzie Place, Fort Collins, Colorado, Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg Colorado in Jim’s name.
