The Process: From Death to Funeral

Many people are not aware of what happens between the death of a loved one at the funeral, if they have not had to participate in the process before. Here we discuss what happens when a death occurs. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at any time.
Transportation
The first thing that will need to happen is the transportation of your loved one to the appropriate facility. In most cases, they will need to be transported from a hospital, nursing home, or from home. In cases like these, they will be transported directly to the funeral home. In cases of sudden, unexpected, or accidental deaths, they will be transported to a coroner first for an autopsy.
Preparation
After they have been transported to the funeral home or other location, preparation of the body will begin. Preparations can take various forms depending on the type of service or gathering you have selected, and can include bathing, dressing, embalming or cremation.
Paperwork/Planning
Around the same time as preparations are being made, a death certificate will need to be filed. In order for the death certificate to be filed, a signature from the attending physician needs to be arranged along with filing the correct paperwork with the county registrar.
In addition to filing the proper paperwork, funeral service preparations, planning, and decisions are made during this period. In some cases, the deceased has made prior arrangements for the funeral service they prefer. If this is not the case, a loved one will need to make decisions for the funeral services.
The Ceremony or Service
The final step is for you and your family and friends to celebrate your loved one’s life and be there for one another at the service. Dealing with loss is a difficult process and it looks different for everyone. That said, a beautiful service dedicated to celebrating your loved one can go a long way in providing closure and helping everyone grieve.
