Zelma Lee Colwell, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024 at the age of 98. Zelma was born on November 28, 1925 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Noah Doc and Ora Dell Anderson. She was the third of nine siblings. Zelma was proceeded in death by husband Thomas Colwell, daughter Sherry Pafford, and siblings Richard Anderson, Pearl McCornach, Opal Reid, and Joann Jones. She was survived by son Steve Colwell (Shirley), daughter Rita Woods (Roger), siblings Bill Anderson, Don Anderson, Mary Fabrie, and Norma Henkel, nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren! What a legacy!
Zelma graduated from Wellington High School in 1944. She enjoyed playing basketball and loved to tell the story of her game winning shot.
After marrying the love of her life, Thomas Colwell in 1947 Zelma settled in Wellington, Colorado where she lived for 75 years. Together, they raised three children, Steve, Sherry, and Rita in the home they built on Lincoln Avenue in Wellington, CO. Zelma was a dedicated wife and mother; finding joy in tending to her garden, canning, and maintaining a beautiful yard.
Zelma was a talented quilter, seamstress, and cook; known for her delicious chocolate gravy and yummy pies! She was an active member of the Meadowlark Church of Christ where she taught children's Bible classes along with VBS and participated in ladies Bible class. Zelma loved playing games! For many years, she belonged to a Cansta group and enjoyed winning at all types of card games! Zelma was cherished by all who knew her for her kind and loving nature. She was always described as sweet, soft-spoken, and non-judgmental.
Zelma's legacy lives on in her family, who will always remember her as a loving and devoted matriarch. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Viewing will be held 12-4pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Services will be held 10 am, Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Meadowlark Church of Christ, 2810 Meadowlark Ave. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Zelma's kind heart made charitable donations for decades to the Mountain States Children's Home in Longmont, CO. In lieu of flowers, please continue Zelma's legacy by donating to this organization.
