Wynona Marie "Noni" Penfold died Friday, Aug. 22 after complications from heart problems. She was born in Marshall, Mo., Nov. 18, 1933, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rigdon. A brother, Harold Fred Rigdon preceded her in death. A sister, Ruth A. Moore lives in Colorado Springs. The Penfolds were married Sept. 11, 1954. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard L. Penfold, of Fort Collins; and four children. Children include, Gregory and wife Kathy of Fort Collins; Brent and wife Mirsini of Wallkill, N.Y.; Susanne and husband David Sullivan of St. Louis Park, Minn.; Jennifer and husband Charles Grogan of Fort Collins. Grandchildren are Alexandra Hurd, Larissa Marie Snow, Scarlett Marie Penfold, and Shea and Karsten Grogan. Noni received her nursing degree with honors from St. Luke's nursing school in Kansas City, Mo., in 1953. After moving to Fort Collins in 1965, she was active in many community organizations including P.E.O, P.T.A, gourmet club and in bringing the Budweiser brewery to Fort Collins. The Penfolds moved to Hot Springs, S.D., in 1987 where Noni continued to her participation in many community organizations. In 2000 Noni and Dick returned to Colorado and lived for several years in Estes Park before returning to Fort Collins, the place they knew as "home". Most importantly she was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother and a cherished friend to all that knew her. The Penfold family extends a very grateful thank you to the staff at Columbine Heath Lemay Center, Poudre Valley Hospital especially the 5th floor TeleWest group and Hospice of Larimer County, for all your care, support and love. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19th at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Donations in her name may be made to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
