Worine (Renie) Elizabeth Nelson-Shirk

Renie Nelson-Shirk joined her Lord and Savior on August 22, 2026. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and those who loved her dearly.

Renie was the youngest of four siblings, born into the loving arms of her mother and father, Lee and Catherine Nelson, on October 24, 1951. She was brought into this world at Poudre Valley Hospital (PVH), which would later become UCHealth, where she spent the majority of her life working as a dedicated and dependable employee. She was celebrated for her 50 years as an outstanding employee of UCHealth during the summer of 2025, where her family, friends, and co-workers showered her with much laughter and admiration for her many years of service with the hospital system.

Renie was a loving, caring, and forever devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and cherished friend. Those who knew her well thought of her fondly with respect for her strong conviction of faith, her bountiful and never-wavering love for her family and friends, and her willingness to help those in need, including her family, close friends, church family, and many others who crossed her path.

Renie was an avid reader and always had a bestseller, usually a crime novel, by her side. She was known to read through the night until the sun began peeking through her blackout curtains. Her kids and many friends knew they could call her at any time of night and without fail she would answer with a smile on her face and the willingness to listen to the successes, stories, and sometimes complaints that came from the other end. Her little laugh and affirmation of love and care could always be counted on to accompany the end of any call.

Renie is survived by those who loved and cared for her the most: her husband, Dane Shirk; her three children, Lisa Rae Lochard (Michael), Bridget Ramsey, and Clint Martz (Beth); and stepdaughter Cindy Rowe (Chris). She also had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who brought so much happiness and laughter into her life. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, as well as one of her elder sisters, Carolyn Niswender (Chuck).

Renie will be laid to rest in a private burial, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
