William David Platt, 81, of Fort Collins, died Sept. 16, 2007, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. Mr. Platt was born June 1, 1926, in Duvall, Wash., to Stephen F. Platt and Mary Alexander Platt. He served in World War II in fighter pilot training and then as a radio operator; he also served several years in the Merchant Marines, primarily on the U.S.S. Warhawk. William married Darlene R. Johnson on Sept. 18, 1960. William joined the F.A.A. where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller for 32 years until his retirement in 1986. After retirement he moved to the Poudre Canyon. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, photography and camping. He became a bingo master at the Community Center for the past 20 years. He was also an E.M.S. and a volunteer with the Upper Poudre Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his daughter, Lori Norton of Glendale, Ariz.; son-in-law, Tom Norton of Bloomfield, N.M.; grandson, Josia Norton; and granddaughter, Katrina Norton; both of Glendale. Preceding William in death is his wife, Darlene. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Poudre Canyon Chapel. Pastor Bruce Smith will officiate at the service.
