Wayne H. Kershner went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 30, 2011 after complications from a stroke. Wayne was born on August 26, 1927 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Glenn and Ella Kershner, who preceded him in death in 1976 and 1998, respectively. He also had two twin brothers who preceded him in death � Floyd who died in 1926 of the flu and Lloyd who died in 1943 in a plane crash at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Wayne and his family lived for brief periods in Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and various places in Colorado before settling in the Waverly/Wellington area in 1939 to farm. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1944 while still attending Wellington High School and served in an aerial photographic unit of the 15th Air Force until his Honorable Discharge in 1947. He also attended and graduated from Colorado State University. He married Carol Ann Rabbe on December 28, 1950 and lived in Fort Collins while continuing to farm in Wellington. They had one daughter, Julie. Carol died of leukemia in August, 1977. Wayne lived in Fort Collins until May 2009 when he moved to Lakeland, Florida to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jim Van De Velde. A memorial service will be held for Wayne on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. There will be no graveside service as Wayne was cremated. The family requests no flowers, but contributions may be made to the Wayne Kershner Memorial Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
