Waltraud Erna Gisele Schultz-Salazar, a cherished resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at the age of 85 at Columbine Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on Tuesday, August 20th, 1940, in Wiesbaden, Germany, Waltraud lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and love.
Waltraud's journey led her from Germany to the United States when she met and fell in love with Joe Salazar while he was stationed with the US Army. Their union was a testament to enduring love as they built a new life in America. Sadly, Joe preceded her in death, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories.
Professionally, Waltraud found her passion in the culinary arts, sharing her love for cooking with everyone she knew. Her kitchen was a haven of delightful aromas and flavors, where she welcomed friends and family with open arms and a warm heart.
The love Waltraud imparted lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Donna Gromer and Susie Hansen, Susie's husband, Rodd Hansen, and her grandchildren, Bobby White and Sarah White. Waltraud's kindness and spirit also enriched the lives of her three great-grandchildren, Steve White-Posegate, Nathan White-Posegate, and Wesley White-Posegate who enjoyed many joyful moments with her.
In honoring her life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at 10:00 am at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins, Colorado. A private graveside service will take place at Highland Cemetery in Wellington, Colorado.
Waltraud was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her legacy of warmth, love, and impeccable cooking will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Joe.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude for the love and support shown during this difficult time, and appreciates the comforting prayers and fond memories shared by friends and loved ones.
