Wallace D. Hamilton, 91, of Fort Collins, passed away August 17, 2011 at Columbine West Skilled Nursing Facility. Wallace ?Wally? Hamilton was born October 26, 1919, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Grace Losee Hamilton and Archie W. Hamilton. In 1923 The family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Wally attended elementary school and graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1938. Wally and the love of his life, Judy Olsen of Fort Collins, were married October 30, 1943 in San Diego, California. In early 1944, Wally entered the U. S. Navy and served overseas duty in the Philippines and Okinawa areas during WWII, receiving his discharge in 1946.
After the war, Wally attended Colorado A & M in Fort Collins and the University of Denver where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. Wally and Judy returned to San Diego where Wally was employed in the aerospace industry until his retirement in 1979. After retirement, the couple relocated to Colorado, living in Montrose until 1984, and then returning to Fort Collins to make their home. Wally was a member of AARP, Aspen Club and the Pioneer Club. He enjoyed sports, camping, fishing and traveling around the U.S. An accomplished photographer, Wally filled their home with beautiful photographs of their travels. Wally is survived by his devoted wife, Judy and a large family of friends that will miss his dry humor and infectious laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul A. Hamilton of Fort Collins; and his sister, Florence H. Detwiler of Richland, Washington. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Simmons and his staff, the nurses and staff at Center Rehab and the outstanding, loving, caring, tolerant and understanding nurses and CNAs at Columbine West for making Wally?s last year comfortable and happy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Cremation has taken place. Please join us for a Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
