Virginia J. Hollingshead

Virginia J. Hollingshead, 85, of Fort Collins went home to be with the Lord on Mother's Day May 9, 2010 at a local nursing home. Mrs. Hollingshead was born February 7, 1925 in Pomona, California to Robert and Myrta Altwegg West. Mrs. Hollingshead went to Perry Iowa Community Schools and Drake University. Virginia married Albert E. Hollingshead, Jr. on April 18, 1948 at 1st Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. She lived in the Fort Collins area for forty years and worked as a department manager for the JC Penney Company. She was active in PEO and enjoyed hiking, knitting, cooking and tole painting. Survivors include her son, J. Stephen "Steve" Hollingshead and his wife, Peggy; and two grandchildren, Stephen and Jenny of Fort Collins; nieces, Cindy L. Crosby of Shaker Heights, Ohio and Ann M. Hollingshead of Dallas, Texas; cousins, Frances A. Lamb of Maquoketa, Iowa and Gary B. Altwegg of Logan, Iowa; Preceding Virginia in death is her husband, Albert E. Hollingshead. A Memorial Service will be held at 1st Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Ave on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Rich McDermott will officiate the service. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date in Albia, Iowa. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alpha Center in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
