Violette was born in Sterling, CO on December 12, 1929 to Floyd and Oradell Gabel, the oldest of their six children. Her childhood was spent in her hometown where she graduated from Sterling High School in 1947. As a Music Major in College, Violette was able to advance her love for music as well as her gift for playing the piano. She met Milton Proctor at the skating rink in Sterling the summer of 1953; they were married on New Year's Day 1954 and have since been known as "Ike and Vi". They made their home in Wellington, CO for nearly 60 years. Over the course of her 40-year career, VI worked for First National Bank, Wellington Urban Renewal Authority, and North Poudre Irrigation, and was a member of several community groups. She gave piano lessons from their home in Wellington until the early 70's; music was her passion and as a gifted pianist and organist she never turned down an invitation to play for a wedding, funeral, or special event. Vi is remembered as a kind and generous soul, famous for her genuine smile and giggle.
Vi is preceded in death by both of her parents; her brother, Verlyn; and her husband, Ike. She is survived by her two sons, Dan of Johnstown, CO, and David of Sarasota, FL. She has two grandchildren, David and Lisa of New York, and one great-grandson Joseph.
