Veronica Payton-Sledge

Veronica Jill Payton-Sledge was born in Fort Collins on Oct. 14, 1971, to Michael Eugene Payton and Naomi Kay Chadwick-Payton. She attended Poudre School District schools, which included Tavelli Elementary, Cache La Poudre Junior High and Poudre High School, which she graduated from in 1990. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Growing up she was very active in after-school activities and particularly enjoyed pursuing her musical interests by playing both the piano and flute. She was married to Todd Sledge from 1996 to 2002. In her adult life, she worked as both a certified nursing assistant and a receptionist at various locations in Fort Collins while raising her two daughters. She was very creative and enjoyed scrap booking and decorating in her free time. Her biggest passion in life was being with her daughters. She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Shay Sledge and Meghan Marissa Sledge. Immediate family members include her parents, Michael and Kay Payton of Fort Collins; two brothers, Greg Payton and wife, Goldee, of Lancaster, S.C., and Jacob Payton and wife, Brandi, of Grand Junction; and sister, Amber Raimer; and husband, Jason of Windsor. She also leaves behind a nephew, Tanner Raimer and a niece, Reagan Raimer. Other survivors include grandparents, Robert Chadwick, Blanche and Herb Martens, Chester and Evelyn Payton, and Marjorie and Dennis McGuire, along with multiple uncles, aunts and cousins. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 E. Swallow Road. Interment at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Veronica Jill Payton-Sledge Memorial Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.
