Verna Joyce Scheerer was born 20 Dec 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of Zina May McConkie and James Merrill Newton. She passed away at home on 30 May 2009. This elegant and loving lady led a full and rich life for 83 years. Joyce's faith & family were guiding influences throughout her life. She cheerfully served in many positions of leadership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to sing and shared her love of music by giving vocal and piano lessons and by leading choirs. Joyce led a diversified life. At one point she owned and operated a florist's shop. For several years she modeled and was a fashion show commentator. She also successfully managed a retail clothing store for many years. In Larimer County, Colorado Joyce served the community as a deputy sheriff. In her later years she taught at several private schools in Utah. She was a beloved sister, mother, grand-mother, and great-grand-mother. Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers Charles William McNeill, Harold Alma McNeill, and Jay Newton, and Ruth Ann, a daughter. Joyce is survived by her sister Bonnie M. Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters Linda Gail Ralph Pinkham, Laura Jean Bruce Thatcher, Mary Gary Donham, and Ruth Gerry Moerschell; grandchildren RaLin Dee Barrie Christensen, Berton James Lynnea Pinkham, Bethany Joyce Pinkham Mike Peterson, Stephanie Ragan Blackgard, Tia Camp, Gerry Debbie Moerschell, Angela Aaron Wells; and 20 great-grand children. Services will be held at the LDS chapel at 1450 South 800 East, Orem, Utah at 11 am on Wednesday, 3 June 2009. A viewing will precede the service from 9:45am to 10:45am. Services under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary. Bohlender Funeral Chapel will provide a private graveside service at 11:00am, Friday, June 5th, 2009 at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins.
