Verna Jean Bodig, 81, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on February 14, 2022 due to complications following a stroke.
Born Verna Jean West on November 23, 1940 to Vern and Jean West in Seattle WA. While studying business at the University of Washington she met her future spouse, Jozsef Bodig. Verna and Jozsef married on July 14, 1962.
Verna and her husband moved to Fort Collins in 1963 where she raised three children and lived the remainder of her life. She was a dedicated housewife and was known for her good cooking. She enjoyed singing and was a longtime member of the Women's Choral Group of Fort Collins and several church Choirs over the years. She liked to hike and was able to do so until her stroke in July of 2018.
Verna dedicated her life to helping others, one way she did this was through volunteer work. Some of the organizations she volunteered with are: PEO, Saint Jude's, Catholic Charities of Northern Colorado, CSU Women's Association and the Poudre Wilderness Volunteers.
A memorial will be held Thursday February 24th at 2:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel; 121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan House Fort Collins or CSU Women's Association Scholarships.
Verna was predeceased by: her mother Jean West, father Vernon West, sister Wilma Post and husband Jozsef Bodig. She is survived by her daughter Ilona (Gary) Green of Windsor CO, son Marcus (Justine) Bodig of Fort Collins CO, son Péter Bodig of Salida CO, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
