Vern C. Lute, 91, of Fort Collins, died Feb. 1, 2009 at a local nursing home. Mr. Lute was born Jan. 1, 1918, in Hanna, Ind., to Charles Lute and Estella McChristian Lute. Vern served in the the U.S. Army during WWII in the the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945. Vern married Delores L. Woodcox on Aug. 3, 1958, in South Bend, Ind. He worked as a recieving manager for Sears and Roebuck Company for 48 years Vern moved in 1972 to Fort Collins from South Bend. He was a stamp collector and an avid gardner. Playing softball into his fifties and woodworking were two activites he enjoyed. Survivors include two sons, Richard Lute and his wife, Harriett, of Hanna, Ind., and John Lute and his wife, Sue, of South Bend, Ind.; a daughter, Anne Chenoweth and her husband, Robert, of Fort Collins; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Preceding Vern in death are his parents; first wife, Edith Holmberg Lute; second wife, Delores Lute; four brothers; one sister; a daughter, Barbara Lute; and a grandson, Jeremiah Chenoweth. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2000 S. Lemay. A private interment will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
