Veldena Urben

Veldena D. Urben Dena passed into the presence of the Lord on Monday, Nov. 6, 2006. She was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Enid, Okla. She attended Phillips University, Valparaiso University and received her master's degree in education from Denver University. She taught elementary and junior high school in Littleton, England, France and Fort Collins. While teaching overseas, Dena traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East. When she returned to Littleton she met her husband Fred and raised a family. She continued to teach after the children were of age. She retired from Poudre R1 in 1993. She is survived by her husband, Fred; son, Fred II; son, Joshua and his wife, Shelley, and granddaughters, Kori and Jessica. She is also survived by her stepsister Dorothy Tritschler of Enid, Okla. Dena was active in serving the Lord by being an organist, pianist, teacher and choir director. She was active in the Auxiliary of the Gideons International and served in leadership roles on the local and state level. Her real love was to tell others of the love of Jesus and to present them with a copy of the Word of God. This was demonstrated with her consistent and caring visits to the Larimer County Detention Center residents for 20 years. She always had a Bible in her purse or pocket to give away. Because of her love for the Lord and her work in the Gideon Ministry, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, all memorial gifts be made to the Gideons International in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 West Oak St., Fort Collins, CO 80524 for the purchase and placement of Scriptures around the world. A memorial service to celebrate Dena's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Center Community Church, 2700 S. Lemay Ave.
