Tom Hofmann

Tom Hofmann, 60, of Fort Collins, passed away July14, 2007, a valiant warrior to the end against the rare ocular melanoma that took him from us too soon. Tom was born April 20, 1947, in Denver to Edward and Dixie Lee Patton Hofmann. He was raised in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School in 1965. He moved to Fort Collins that fall as a CSU student, beginning a long and storied life as a CSU Ram. He graduated in 1969 and served in the National Guard after college. During the 1970s, Tom built solar powered homes in Evergreen and near Steamboat Springs. He was very proud of these energy-efficient homes. Tom married the love of his life, Cathy Healy, on July 3, 1982, in Denver. Tom was the founder 1986, owner, and president of Shamrock Transportation, which includes Shamrock Taxi and Airport Express. His love of sports was a great pleasure in his life, and he passionately followed the Rams, Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies and Avalanche, among others. He was a devoted and attentive fan with Cathy and son, Kevin, alongside. Tom loved classic cars and motorcycles, which put Sturgis on the annual calendar. He was an active participant in softball and basketball and was a regular at the Fort Collins Club. To all who knew him, Tom willingly gave his valuable gifts of great humor, devoted friendship, enjoyment of sports, love of life and nature, and his ability to enjoy the moment. Many lives will be diminished with the passing of this gentle and spirited man. Tom is survived by his beloved wife and son, Cathy and Kevin of Fort Collins; his mother, Dixie Lee Ruland and her husband, Mel, of Littleton; his brothers, Peter of Sarasota, Fla., Richard of Fort Collins, and William Brenda, of Loveland; sisters-in-law, Nancy Bruce Bell, of Snohomish, Wash., and Petey Chris Butler of Chicago, Ill. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, a wealth of friends, and his dinner group. Tom was predeceased by two dear men, his father, Edward; and his brother-in-law, John Healy. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19 at Foothills Unitarian Church, 1815 Yorktown at Drake, Fort Collins.
