Thomas Gerald Hassett was born in 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska, the oldest of 5 children. He attended Creighton Prep High School, and before graduation, joined the United States Navy. He served at the end of WWII, completing most of his commitment on the USS Nehenta Bay stationed in the Pacific. After the Navy, he returned to Omaha. He married Evelyn Mary Gamerl on May 31st, 1952. They were married for 63 years, until her death.
Tom and Evelyn had 8 children. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved his family, his many friends, gardening, and living in Colorado. He was a member of the local AA community for 41 years. He loved college football, especially his Nebraska Cornhuskers. His compassion for others, his faith, and his humor sustained him throughout his lifetime.
Tom is survived by his sister, Patricia A. Bosanek, brother, Patrick D. Hassett; children, Terrence Hassett, Linda (Robert) Coate, daughter-in-law, Valerie Hassett, Christopher (Linda) Hassett, Michaela (Jeffrey) Knight and Colleen (Matthew) Thomas, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Genevieve Hassett; sisters, Isabelle Larson and Beverly Jadlowski; sons, Timothy and Shaun Hassett and a daughter, Evelyn Gruba. A Rosary will be said on Sunday evening, June 19th at 7:00 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, 1220 University Avenue. Interment Grandview Cemetery with military honors, Fort Collins.
