Thelma L. Kennedy, 87, of Fort Collins, died Feb. 24, 2009, at her residence. Mrs. Kennedy was born July 10, 1921, in Avant, Okla., to Alba Belew and Ona Reese Belew. Thelma married Grover Fossett in 1937, in Mountain View, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1949. She then married Leslie R. Kennedy in August of 1950, in Ft. Levanworth, Kan. He also preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Kennedy was raised in Southeast Missouri, moved to Colorado and the Fort Collins area in 1939. Thelma also lived in North Park for 15 years. She was a homemaker and worked at the Coloradoan for 22 years. Thelma attended Timberline Church but baptised in the river at her grandfather's resort in Blue Springs Missouri. She crocheted hats for infants at McKee Medical Center. She was an expert seamstress. She also loved animals and children. Survivors include her four daughters, Patsy Galyardt of Loveland, Betty Petri of Fromberg, Mont., Shirley Legg of Olympia, Wash., and Sharon Kennedy of Fort Collins; a brother, Donald R. Belew of Fort Collins; three sisters, Juanita Johnson of Laporte, Vena May Higbee of Fort Collins, and Earlene Bradley of Fort Collins; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Also preceding Thelma in death are her parents; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Timberline Church, 2908 S. Timberline Rd., at 10:30 a.m., on Monday. A Private Inurnment will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Pastor John Engle will officiate at the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Pueblo Collie Rescue or Timberline Church in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, CO 80524.
