Thelma Hixson Gilleland, born May 19, 1919, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2009 at her home after a short illness. She and her husband, Clois, were long time residents of Laporte, Colorado. She is survived by her son, Gregory, his wife, Cathy, and three grandchildren, Sean, Ashley, and Colin, as well as a devoted extended family. Born in Kansas, Thelma loved gardening, was an avid reader, an outstanding cook, and did exquisite needlework. She was always elegant, and very generous to family and friends. She volunteered numerous hours at Columbine Nursing Home in Fort Collins. She was a member of the Pueblo Chapter of Eastern Star, she worked for Holly Lumber, Stover's Grocery, Montgomery Ward, H&R Block, and Roger's Plumbing and Heating. Her memory for names was astounding and she loved a good party! She was preceded in death by her husband, Clois, her mother and father, Inez and John, and her half sister, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 455 Sherman St., #500, Denver, Colorado 80203. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Viewing will be Friday, 12:00-4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Graveside Service will be Monday, 2:00 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan, Denver, Staging Area A.
