At the age of 89, Sylvester Zwiener passed away on November 30, just 10 days before his 90th birthday. He was born December 10, 1925 at Kearney, NE to Joseph and Lena Zwiener. He lived with his family on the farm near Pleasanton, NE. He farmed and tended livestock with his father until the age of 21, when he married Catherine Moes and they moved to a farm of their own, farmed and raised cattle until 1967 when they moved to Fort Collins, CO. There they farmed for 5 years and then he farmed for Ray Klein, a farmer just outside of Fort Collins until about 1978. After that he became employed with Loveland Feed and Grain, but due to a fall he injured a leg and was unable to continue to haul grain to the farmers in the area. After recovery he became employed at the recycling center at the Larimer County Landfill until 2007. He has been retired and for the last three to four years has suffered from Dementia and was placed in the Memory Care Unit at Green House Homes at Mirasol in Loveland on August 6th. His hobbies were gardening and lawn care and listening to good music, such as the Lawrence Welk show.
He was preceded in death by all of his family members, his father and his mother, and siblings, Bernice Antonovich, Bernard, and Louis.
He is the father of three children. They are Ernest, whose spouse is Adair and their children are Andy and Joe Haze and Frances. Rosemary, whose spouse is Dave McVey and their children are Amie Mitchell and Daniel Mitchell. And Sandra whose spouse is Luis Quintana and their children are twins Brian and Christopher and Briana. He became great grandfather to baby Lila about four months ago. Sylvester has numerous nieces and nephews and cousins in Nebraska and California.
A visitation will be held Sunday, 5 - 8 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. The Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Graveside services will be held Monday, 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery.
