Susan Gay Shipley Lamb, 56, transitioned peacefully with courage and grace at home on March 1, 2016.
She was welcomed into this world by her parents Elaine & Dale Shipley and brother, Michael, in Amarillo, Texas, on June 16, 1959. Her father's Air Force career took the family to Alaska, Colorado, Virginia, Canada and back to Colorado Springs, where she graduated from Mitchell High School in 1977.
Susan went to elementary and junior high schools in Fort Collins and returned for college at CSU, where she graduated with a Fine Arts degree (BFA) in 1981. She worked a variety of jobs including Mountain Bell, Neodata, AIG and Vipont Pharmaceuticals, where she developed lifelong friendships, prior to settling down to raise a family with David Lamb, her devoted husband of 30 years.
Her interests/passions included hiking and camping in the mountains and foothills throughout Colorado with friends and family, downhill and cross-country skiing, and gardening. She was dedicated to volunteering in the community--PSD schools [Timnath, Preston & Fossil Ridge], St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Poudre Valley Hospital Lactation Program and the Lincoln Center. Susan was an avid reader, enjoyed edgy music and movies, had a wry sense of humor—quick witted and laced in sarcasm—and an analytic mind for solving puzzles. Susan was especially gifted with a unique ability to connect friends with resources—a conduit—introducing people with mutual or complementary interests, which endeared her to many who treasured her friendship and resourcefulness.
Susan will be dearly missed by her husband, David Lamb, her sons Andrew and Matthew Lamb, sister-in-law, Priscilla Dressen, nephew, Alex Dressen Shipley, all of Fort Collins, along with numerous cousins, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elaine and Dale Shipley and brother, Michael Shipley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Drake Centre, 802 West Drake Road, Fort Collins, on Sunday, April 10, from 4-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Pathways Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525, or to Poudre River Friends of the Library, 301 E Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO 80521. Donations may also be made to the Susan Lamb Memorial Fund, c/o David Lamb, designated for a bench to be placed along one of her favorite hiking trails via the City of Fort Collins Memorial Bench Program.
