Susan Trudy Poettmann Fox, 72, of Fort Collins, passed away on April 13, 2023 after a valiant three year battle with breast cancer and COPD.
She was born to June and Fred Poettmann on December 9, 1950 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. June died of Leukemia eleven weeks later. Trudy was cared for by her adoring Oma and Opa until her father remarried and Trudy gained a second mother in AnnaBell.
Trudy graduated from Littleton High School and Colorado State University with a bachelor's degree in Speech and Theatre Arts. She met her lifelong partner, Ray Fox, at CSU. They married on August 25, 1972. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August with her children and grandchildren.
A lesson at age five began Trudy's life-long passion for figure skating. One of her proudest achievements was earning her gold medal from the United States Figure Skating Association at the age of 14. She loved sharing her passion for the sport with her students in group learn-to-skate lessons and in private lessons as a figure skating coach at South Suburban Ice Arena in Littleton, CO and at EPIC in Fort Collins, CO. Some of her fondest memories were of watching her private students achieve their goals.
In addition to ice skating, Trudy enjoyed painting, cross-stitching, gardening, reading, and cooking. Friends and family were fortunate to receive the bounty of the harvests from her gardens and the delicious products of her creative efforts in the kitchen.
Trudy's greatest joy was her family. She cherished her role as Oma to her amazing grandchildren. Whether it was hosting family events or putting together holiday themed care packages, Trudy was constantly planning ways to create special memories for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Fox; her children, Beckie Garrett, Erica (Sean) Owens, Stuart (Katie) Fox; grandchildren Savannah Garrett, Emilie Garrett, Graham Garrett, Nora Fox, Bristol Owens, and Grace Garrett; brother, Phil (Natasha) Poettmann; sisters-in-laws, Glenda (Ken) Amen, Marilyn (Jack) Amen, and Ina (Mark) O'Dell; and nine nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews.
Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, June Poettmann, Fred Poettmann, and AnnaBell Poettmann, and her son-in-law, Brian Garrett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Trudy's memory to one of her favorite organizations: the Larimer County Humane Society, the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Alzheimer's Association.
