Sue Ellen Mastin, 83 of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away May 4th, 2026.
She was born in Dennison, Iowa to Hugh and Ellen Fryrear. Sue Ellen had a deep family bond and was one of four siblings (Larry, Sue, Juanita, and Kathleen) and later two stepbrothers (Joey and Bobby). Life growing up in Dennison was challenging but Sue Ellen loved it. She found herself living between her mother's and grandmother's homes. She learned that she loved her grandmother's cooking and kept her grandmother's legacy alive by frying everything to a perfect, crunchy, crisp, just the way Gram used to. She brought her own children back to Dennison many times with stops at the famous Kandy Kitchen to have her favorite Anise hard candy.
Sue met and married Bill Mastin after he returned home from serving in the United States Marine Corps. They built a life together and had two children (Lane and Shannon) Bill and Sue lived in many states while Bill was busy climbing the corporate ladder. Sue had many different jobs from waitressing at Cronks in Dennison to sales in Detroit, and bookkeeping in several cities. She realized bookkeeping was her passion and ending her career at a local bank in Fort Collins. She even tried to retire several times and got calls from her supervisors asking her to come back for various jobs. Of course she did because in her own words, "She loved to work!"
Sue had opportunities to travel overseas to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France. She enjoyed the trips but always said home is best . The most defining moment of Sue's life is when she gave her life to Christ in the mid 70's. Bill and her were members of Timberline Church for over 40 years and volunteered for different ministries within the church. Her faith in Christ led her to participate in church building in Mexico on a mission trip. She supported many children through Feed the Children and had the joy of corresponding with many of them. Their pictures were proudly posted on her refrigerator.
Sue is survived by her son and daughter, Lane(Suzanne) and Shannon (David), six grandchildren, Allison (Travis), Jonathon(Melissa), Jason(Lauren), Ross(Lacey), Brendon(Allycia), and Destinee, 18 great grandchildren, Henry, Boone, Agnes, Genevieve, JJ, Maribel, Daniel, Josephine, Enzo, Layla Soriah, Lili, Layla Rose, Linc, Kamden, Vaydra, Starla, and Brya.
We will remember Sue, our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother for her faith in the Lord, humorous personality, and strong work ethic.
A private service with be held for Sue at Grandview Cemetery on Thursday, May 14th.
