Steve was born to Fred and Eileen Walker in Edmonds, Washington. Steve was the third of six children. Growing up, Steve lived in Durango Mexico, Tulsa OK, Orange County California, and for most of his young adult years lived in El Paso, Texas.

Steve was an amazing husband, dad, Pastor, Author, and a profound teacher and leader to so many in the Christian faith. He was one of the early leaders of a revival movement in El Paso among young people called the 'Jesus movement'. He was the founding Pastor of a dynamic Christian church in El Paso called Jesus Chapel West where he served for 28 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife Merle, and his two children Luke and Hilary, and their mother Sharon. Luke Walker and his wife Anjelica continue to serve at Jesus Chapel West, and Hilary Overton and her husband David, along with their children, Steve's grandchildren: Fred, Amara, and Imri are founders of Glory Reborn Ministries in Cebu, Philippines.

He and his wife Merle lived the last 14 years in Fort Collins, Colorado where they enjoyed being with grandchildren, hiking, and writing Christian articles and books. He will especially be remembered for his profound understanding and teachings of the message of "Christ in you, the hope of glory".

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Eileen Walker and is survived by his brothers Jerry, Dale, and Tommy, and sisters Beverly and Janey and their spouses. Steve's life can be appropriately summarized in the words of the apostle Paul, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain!"
