Steven Craig Taylor of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on February 15, 2023 at the age of 53.
The son of Gladys Ruth Arlene and Millard Dale Taylor, Sr, Steve was born on April 22, 1969 in Prince George's County, MD and grew up in Scaggsville, MD. The third of four boys, Steve graduated with a major in Economics and a minor in German from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1992.
Steve was a self-taught computer programmer and educator who spent much of his successful career working for HP Enterprise. This provided him the opportunity to travel the world evaluating system needs and educating staff.
One of his favorite stories about traveling was of being in Germany. Locals, not realizing he was fluent in German, would be talking about him and making jokes about the 'American' sitting there. Laughing, he would recall the shocked looks on their faces when he corrected what they were saying in fluent German. His understanding of German and English grammar was equal and impressive.
Steve immersed himself in the local culture wherever he was traveling and he was especially passionate about visiting Bangkok. He could talk about his experiences there for hours and stated it was his favorite place to visit.
He enjoyed good food and considered himself a hot sauce connoisseur, often making fun of those that could not tolerate the many sauces he enjoyed. Describing his own humor as dry and sarcastic and Steve was witty in his responses and was not concerned if others did not understand or appreciate them.
Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking were two of his favorite authors as well as most anything involving history, particularly the founding fathers of America. References to these readings would often be made by Steve and he was always happy to explain and expound upon them. He was immensely proud of the amount and variety of reading and continuing education he did, in a wide range of areas.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Dale Taylor, and his brother, Glenn Taylor. He is survived by his beloved children, Lily and Noah Taylor; his mother, Arlene Taylor; his two brothers, Ed (Laura) Taylor and Jim (Liz) Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve will be missed dearly.
No public memorial service will be held.
