Beloved "baby brother" of the Gavald ¦n family, Steve Alan Gavald ¦n, 45, of Fort Collins, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005. Steve Gavald ¦n was born Feb. 4, 1960, in Fort Collins. Preceding him in death were his parents, Isabelle and Carmen Gavald ¦n. He is survived by his five brothers and five sisters, Edward P. Gavald ¦n, of Fort Collins, Joseph A. "Andy" Gavald ¦n, of Fort Collins, Richard Gavald ¦n, of Fort Collins, Jeanne L. Garza Whitman, of Longmont, Victor E. Gavald ¦n, of Fort Collins, Marilyn Herrera, of Denver, Jerry J. Gavald ¦n, of Fort Collins, Gloria A. Miller, of Loveland, Delphine B. Gavald ¦n, of Las Vegas and Carol E. Gavald ¦n Chavez, of Denver. He is also survived by his beloved friend, Claire, and his beloved four-legged children, Onyx and Ebony. Steve was a 1978 Poudre High School graduate. He was a 1979 Wheat Ridge Beauty College graduate. His career as a hairstylist/cosmetologist spans 25 years. Steve was recognized internationally for his talent, creativity and reputation as a hairstylist throughout the world. Steve worked as a Paul Mitchell Associate in the early 1980s with hairstylist Paul Mitchell. In 2000, he was recognized and accepted as a member of the Intercoiffure America-Canada, an international fellowship of elite hairdressers from around the world that recognized the top 1 percent of the hairstylists in the world. He performed in hair shows in Paris, Berlin, Mexico City and Canada, as well as throughout the United States, from New York to Hawaii. He is also proud to have mentored many of the young, innovative hairstylists throughout the country. Throughout his life, Steve participated and donated his time and his talents in various charities and fund-raisers. Steve will always be missed for his passion toward life, his devotion to family and for his loyalty for friends. We will miss his impish smile, his unusual sense of humor and his gift to make us all look more beautiful, at least until the next appointment. A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 5450 S. Lemay Ave. Deacon Jim Devlin will officiate. A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Fellowship, 6502 E. Crossroads Blvd. exit No. 259 on Interstate 25, a half-mile east of Fort Collins-Loveland Airport. Pastor Johnny Square will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Diabetes Association will be accepted through Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
