Stanley Brines

Born May 1, 1926, died May 6, 2007 He was born in Boulder on May 1, 1926, to Everett and Daisy Irene Brines. Stan grew up at the Power Plant in Boulder Canyon. Those were wonderful, carefree, happy days growing up in the canyon with his five brothers and sisters, Dale, June Renfro, Bill, Dorothy Smith, and Tom. Stan was the youngest and is the last remaining child. After graduating from Boulder High School he joined the Navy and became a member of the elite Navy Seals. He drove the Burma Road in a convoy of big transport trucks. They later sent him to the Aleutian Islands until his discharge from the Navy. He was the last man on board his ship so he always said he was the "captain." His first profession upon his return from the war was as a masonry contractor. He designed and built many beautiful homes and commercial buildings in and around the Boulder-Denver area. In 1958, he met and married Carol Suzanne Mullinax. 1976 saw them making a professional change to become shop owners in Estes Park. Over the years they established four lovely shops only to have them destroyed in the 1982 Lawn Lake flood. They then relocated to their current home in Fort Collins. In his retirement years Stan enjoyed playing pool, drawing house plans and being the number one gourd artist in Fort Collins. He sold his art as far away as Japan, even boasting a small show of his art in a gallery in Japan. He displayed his art in several galleries around the area including one in Parker as well as several in Fort Collins. Stan was a member of the Boulder Cosmopolitan Club where he was two times the president of that club. His wife, Suzanne of 48 years, and three children survives him, Pat Anderson, Jeannine LeCompte and Richard Brines. He also has three grandchildren, Brad and Jeff LeCompte and Sarah Brines. Stan has many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all. One of his joys was giving to those in need. Graveside Service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
