Shirlie M. Moen, 75, Virginia Dale, Colo., died March 27 in Loveland at the Larimer County Hospice from brain cancer. She was born in Fort Collins on Oct. 18, 1930 to Lewis "Doc" and Grace Fern McGregor. As a child, she lived in both the Larimer County and Albany County areas. She attended elementary schools in the Virginia Dale and Livermore areas and graduated from LaPorte High School in 1948. On May 13, 1951 she married Forrest C. Moen in Panama City, Fla. while Forrest was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. Prior to Forrest returning from the army, Shirlie worked at Bowen's Bookstore in Fort Collins. The couple spent their life on their ranch at Virginia Dale where they raised their two children. In earlier days, Shirlie could always be seen in the stands cheering on Forrest at local rodeos where Forrest competed in roping events. She also enjoyed roping. She was an Albany County 4-H leader for several years, teaching sewing. Shirlie enjoyed riding horses, helping her husband on the ranch, she was a great cook, and she enjoyed her large group of friends and family who often visited and were always welcome. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, working in her yard, playing the organ, and her beloved dog, "Tuffy." Shirlie was a member of the Virginia Dale Community Club for 55 years and president for 30 years. She was also a member of the Virginia Dale Community Church. Her most precious moments were spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren and she will be missed dearly by her family. Shirlie is survived by her husband, Forrest; her son, Mark and wife Cathy; her daughter, Dana and husband Paul Wright and granddaughters, Elly Wright and Skylar Kunce all of Virginia Dale. She's also survived by her brother Paddy McGregor and wife Delores of Waverly, and Casa Grande, Ariz. She's also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two granddaughters. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Livermore Community Church, Livermore, Colo. A private interment will be held at the Virginia Dale Community Church Cemetery. Pastor Paul Mattosky and Pastor Richard Groh will be officiating at the service. Contributions can be made to the Virginia Dale Community Club, the Virginia Dale Community Church, or the Larimer County Hospice.
