Sherrie Wolff of Boulder, CO, passed away peacefully in Fort Collins, CO on January 22, 2024. Sherrie was a lifelong political consultant and strategist in Colorado, California, Wyoming, Washington D.C., and various countries throughout the world. She was a successful campaign manager and chief-of-staff for a U.S. Senator, and U.S. Congressman. Worldwide, Sherrie worked with parliaments, assemblies, prime ministers, and presidents helping develop political systems for their fledgling democracies. At home in Colorado, she was elected to represent her state as the committeewoman on the Democratic National Committee.
Sherrie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 28, 1938, to Margaret Evelyn Barnard and Chester Samuel Lyman. She graduated from Salt Lake City's Granite High School in 1956 before attending the University of Utah obtaining her B.S. in Political science. After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Warren William (Buddy) Wolff, in Salt Lake City on August 10, 1962, the two began their journey together following Buddy's military career around the U.S. and oversees to Taipei, Taiwan. It was during this time that Buddy and Sherrie started a family and had two children- Brett, and Whitney whom she loved dearly throughout her life. Perhaps two of her greatest loves were those of her two grandchildren Dayton Michael Williams, and Kennedy Anne Williams of Fort Collins, CO. Sherrie only met her great-granddaughter, Charlotte Ayn Williams via video from her memory care facility in Fort Collins.
After coming back to Colorado from Taiwan, Sherrie's love for southeast Asia led her to get her M.A. in Chinese History from the University of Colorado. She then began her vast and extensive career in politics that spanned parts of five decades. She culminated her lifelong learning quest later in life when she earned a Ph.D. in Political Science, Government from Columbus University.
During Sherrie's long political career, she had the privilege of helping democratize countries in parts of the world that only some Americans get to visit. Sherrie worked for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) in: Indonesia, Nepal, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Ukraine, Somalia, Macedonia, Vietnam, the Republic of Georgia, Romania, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and Papua New Guinea.
Sherrie loved her friends and was thankful for the various political groups that she was involved in until just recently. She loved her and Buddy's friends at the Meadows Club, their Vail/Grand Lake groups, and the "Democratic Old Broads." Sherrie loved to ski, golf, play cards and board games with family and friends.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Lyman, and Margaret Lyman, her brothers, Ken Lyman, and Jim Lyman, and her husband of 48 years Buddy Wolff. She leaves behind her children, Brett Wolff and her daughter-in-law Rachel Salhi of California, her daughter Whitney Williams, and her son-in-law Kevin Williams, her granddaughter, Kennedy Williams, her grandson and family, Dayton Williams, his wife Jessica Williams, and their daughter Charlotte Williams all of Colorado.
