Sharon Frazee Standard, born May 18, 1940 in Springfield, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Daughter of Harold and Dottie Frazee, and sister of Beverly (Bev), Michael and William (Billy) Frazee, she spent her childhood and teenage years in Springfield, Missouri. She completed Radiology Technology training in 1963 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, where she went on to work as a Radiation Technologist. In 1969, Sharon married Peter Jackman Standard. They had their first and only child, Peter Judson Standard, in 1971.
In 1975, after Peter fulfilled his term with the US Army, the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Peter practiced medicine and Sharon was a full-time mother. Sharon remained in Fort Collins for over 40 years, volunteering with numerous organizations and regularly contributing to the Lincoln Center for the performing arts. She played competitive tennis, bridge, and hundreds of rounds of golf at the Fort Collins Country Club with friends and family. In 1996, Sharon was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder; primary biliary cirrhosis. By 1998, the disease had taken its toll and she required a liver transplant. Thankfully, she was well enough to attend her son and daughter-in-law's wedding in 1999 and enjoyed her two grand-children, particularly in their younger years. Following her liver transplant, the subsequent 18 years brought their share of medical challenges. High doses of anti-rejection drugs led to multiple health issues, and she developed Parkinson's disease in the last few years of her life. Her numerous conditions were eventually too much to overcome.
Sharon is survived by her son, Peter Judson Standard; niece, Laura Standard Kempher; and her two grandchildren, granddaughter Logan Alexa (age 14), and grandson, Reid Jackson (age 10). In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Peter Standard, her husband, who passed away in 2015 as a result of lung cancer.
A small, simple service will be held in late May/early June in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of her husband's death. More details will be communicated as the date and time are finalized.
