Sarah Nauta

Sarah Ruth Nauta, 92, passed away Dec. 31, 2006, at Centre Avenue Health and Rehab Facility in Fort Collins. Sarah was born April 17, 1914, to Thomas Simons and Frances Ross Simons, at Johnson Mesa, near Raton, N.M. After graduating from the St. Patrick Academy in Raton in 1932, Sarah married Ed Nauta on July 25, 1932. They moved to Colorado in 1934 and worked at various ranches until they bought the ForkGÇÖs Hotel, at Livermore in 1946. Sarah started her career as the Livermore Postmaster in 1947 where she served and enjoyed the public for 25 years. Sarah served as president of the Colorado branch of the National League of Postmasters for two years and was awarded GÇ£Postmaster of the YearGÇ¥ in 1974. Sarah lived a long and full life. She belonged to various organizations including the Livermore WomenGÇÖs Club and helped form the Home Boosters Club in Livermore. For her contributions to the community of Livermore, and for restoring and preserving its history in the book, Among These Hills, Sarah received the GÇ£Pioneer of the Year AwardGÇ¥ in 2001. She was active in the Livermore Community Church until they moved to Fort Collins in 1985 where she attended the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her three sons; Carl Nauta and his wife Margaret, of Casper, Wyo.; Don Nauta and his wife Nedra, of LaPorte; Lee Nauta and his wife Linda, of Nunn; and nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren who will all remember GÇ£The Good Years of Sarah Nauta.GÇ¥ Sarah was preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 56 years; twelve siblings; and a great-grandchild. A country memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 at Livermore Community Church. A private interment will be Jan. 5, 2007, at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins.
