Santana Moore

Santana Moore, 76, passed away peacefully early the morning of Jan. 16, 2006, after suffering her second stroke in several weeks. Santana, daughter of Lee and Eva Martinez, was born July 10, 1929, in Greeley. A member of Holy Family Parish, she lived all of her life in Fort Collins, Colo. A graduate of Fort Collins High School, she married Dave Moore. Together they raised seven children and were married 54 years. Santana is survived by her children, Michael Moore, of Fort Collins, John Moore, of Greeley, daughters, Joan Moore, Gail and her husband, Bernard Freedman, Suzan and her husband, Rudy Bustos; daughter-in-law Sarah Vallejo-Moore; a special grandson, Nathan Moore and his wife, Stephanie; and all their families, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. She is also survived by her sisters, Matilda Maxwell, Evangeline Mondragon and Gloria Maxwell, and a brother Phillip Martinez, all of Fort Collins; and also brothers, Anthony and Robert "Bob" Martinez, of Denver. Santana was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Moore; sons, David and Patrick; her parents, Lee and Eva Martinez; brothers, Alonzo, Dan, and Joseph Martinez; grandson, David Samuel Vallejo-Moore; and great-grandson Angel Cruz-Ontiveros. Santana was a homemaker the majority of her life, raising seven children and being involved in every aspect of their lives, school, cub scouts, camp fire girls, PTA, religion classes and breaking up fights after school. She also found time to be involved in Holy Family Parish, Altar and Rosary Society, choirs, volunteering in the many functions and services with the church. She is also a member of the Alonzo Martinez auxiliary Post No. 187, having served as president, secretary, treasurer and district officer, and she has been a continuous member for 58 years. She sold Avon for many years and also worked for the Poudre R-1 School District as a parent-teacher liaison, doing outreach work until retirement. She was also very involved with the Democratic Party and other community boards and commissions. Some of her many talents included singing with a beautiful voice, sewing, crafts, wallpapering, and upholstery. She traveled to Mexico 17 times in 23 years to visit her children and grandchildren when they lived there. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and she enjoyed being at church, an occasional trip to Blackhawk, and of course bingo. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Those who desire may view Santana Moore from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Rosary Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Parish, and a Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, also at Holy Family Parish. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
