Sandra Ann Nicholson (formerly Evangelista and Gilbert) of Kalamazoo and Detroit, Michigan, passed away at the home of her son Pete on December 28, 2025.
She was 85 years old.
Bom November 11, 1940, Sandy was the only child of Pete and Leona Evangelista. She attended Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Schools, graduating in 1958, and went on to earn her degree from Western Michigan University in
1964. Sandy built a successful career as an insurance agent with John Hancock, where she was known for her professionalism
and dedication.
She is survived by her 3 children: William (Christine) Gilbert of CO, Pete Evangelista of CO, and Sarah (Josh) Losota of Mi; 7 grandchil-dren; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 stepchildren; and many step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert Nicholson.
Sandy was deeply involved in the communities of Kalamazoo and Loveland, generously volunteering her time and championing many causes close to her heart in-duding The Kalamazoo Symphony and Open Doors Kalamazoo.
She had a lifelong love of art and enjoyed traveling to countries around the world. Sandy leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and service - values reflected in her children and grandchildren.
She lived a full and meaningful life and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
