Listen to Obituary
Sandra Hunnicutt of Wellington, CO, died July 2nd, 2025. She was 79.

Sandy was born in the summer of 1946 in the San Francisco Bay Area and grew up in Lassen County, CA.

She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing at CSU-Chico and later a master's from Columbia Pacific University.

For most of her adult life, Sandy worked for Santa Clara County's Public Health Department as a Public Health Nurse. A position she took great pride in; she became a supervisor and even the acting-director of the department for a time before retiring in June 1999. Sandy's leadership in Public Health was demonstrated daily as she mentored staff, chaired the Public Relations Committee, wrote grants, developed the first PHN Newsletter, "Univox," established a division-wide Disaster Response Program, and provided many creative in-service education programs, such as "Creative New Ways to Work." She once led a team of PHN volunteers in support of "mutual aid," assisting families during the Northridge Earthquake. She was very much respected and admired by staff throughout the Health Department.

In her spare time, Sandy was an avid gardener, spending time soaking up the sun while tending to her favorite flowers, Irises. She loved going to the beach and attending musical theater. She was involved with her daughter in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, where she served on the adult Advisory Board of San Jose Assembly #5 for many years, later becoming Mother Advisor and ultimately Grand Deputy for District #32 (SJ#5, Willow Glen #199, and Blossom Valley #147). An advocate at heart, she nurtured the education, empowerment, and leadership of many young women. Later in life, she volunteered as a foster with Bounce Animal Rescue and was an active participant in her community's political environment.

Sandy was known for her caring nature, humor, and sarcastic wit. Quick-thinking, she loved debating, and she wrote prolifically. She was loved by so many good friends, who will miss her dearly.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen V. & LaClede Warner, and her brother, Stephen A. Warner of Atwater, CA. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Warner of Wellington, CO, and her dogs, Annie & Luna.

As requested, her ashes will be spread near a lake in Northern California. A celebration of life will be held later.

In place of flowers, donations may be made to Bounce Animal Rescue (bounceanimalrescue.org) or California Rainbow Girls (gocarainbow.org).
