Samuel William Geist, age 72 of Fort Collins, died, Friday, May 28, 2010. Dad died at home with family by his side. He was born at Poudre Valley Hospital, March 13, 1938. After graduating from Fort Collins High school in 1956, he served his country in the Army. On September 9, 1964 he married Patricia Joyce Ballerby-Bonner. In 1961, he began his career of owning and operating gas and service stations. In August of 2001 he closed up shop and as dad said ?called it a career?. Dad enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Denver Broncos. Dad loved movies, especially westerns. Dad fought cancer the way he lived his life; with courage, pride, and the determination that he could win the battle. His humor shined all the way to the end! Dr. Casey and the staff at Poudre Valley Oncology and Dr. McFarland and everyone at Front Range Cancer Specialist fought side by side with Dad in his battle. Bless you all! Nurse Carol Purdy earned another set of wings for her hard work. And to the staff at Pathways Hospice, thanks for helping Samara guide him those last days. To Snuffy, Denny and John Robledo your friendship and loyalty provided comfort, strength and hope to Dad. Sam is survived by his wife, Pat; daughters, Sherri Doc Holliday and their children, Wyatt and Marshall all of Windsor, Colorado, Kim Mario Foster of Greeley and Samara Alex Geist and their child, Dillon Samuel all of Fort Collins; niece, Tamara Lockman of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister, Margaret Ann. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Fort Collins, 1709 W. Elizabeth at 10:30 a.m., Friday. Father Raymond Chavez will officiate. A reception will immediately follow the service.
