Sally Ann Alger, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 19th, 2025 in Fort Collins CO. She was born to Paul and June Travis in Indianapolis IN on July 19, 1948. She was married to Jeffrey Alger in 1971 and the two shared 54 wonderful years together.
Sally met life with fortitude and grace. Along with her semi-nomadic engineer husband, she moved her family from Indianapolis IN, to Phoenix, AZ, to St Cloud, MN to Anchorage, AK and finally to Fort Collins, CO. Though often difficult, she accepted each move with resilience and a smile; each time making her new surroundings into a home for the family.
While her profession proclaimed her a dental hygienist, in her soul, Sally was an artist whose kindness, nurturing, and appreciation for the simple beauties of life left an indelible mark on all within her sphere. She had a gift for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary and had an uncanny knack for making the mundane seem magical. When it rained, she gathered her children and watched the storms until the rainbows appeared. When life was scary, she built them forts and told stories of secret hideaways until they felt safe again. When on the phone or just sitting, she idly doodled tree stumps and fairies and little fuzzy men that would take flight and color the world. She saw beauty everywhere, and through patience and love, brought that beauty to those around her. She gained her BA in Fine Arts from CSU in 2004 and lent her skills to the Fort Collins Museum of Art Mask Fundraiser for multiple years in a row. Many of her canvases hold pride of place in the homes of her family.
Sally is survived by her husband Jeff Alger of Fort Collins, her two daughters, Lori Crotser (David Crotser) of Longmont and Jennifer McIntosh (Scott McIntosh) of Longmont, and the seven grandchildren she has nurtured over the years: Elijah Crotser, Edward Crotser, Dylan McIntosh, Baillie McIntosh, MacKenzie McIntosh, Alexandra McIntosh, and Logan McIntosh.
The funeral mass will be held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton on Thursday April 3, 2025 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in Sally's honor.
