Ruth Romer

Ruth Vivian Romer, 88, was born Oct. 9, 1919, to Thomas Cramblett and Katherine Agnes Garvey in Boone, Iowa. The family moved to Clinton, Iowa, where she graduated from St. Mary's High School. She married Arnold P. Jacobsen and they had two children. In 1951, she married Milo C. Mike Young who later passed away on their 25th wedding anniversary. They worked a number of years with the Schimmel Hotel chain. They were later hired by Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, to develop and operate a food service program. During their marriage they enjoyed building a new home on acreage that was used to raise and show quarterhorses and hackney ponies. Ruth showed at harness a team of hackney mares receiving numerous awards for her accomplishments. They held trail rides and entertained at their home. After Mike's death, Ruth moved to Clinton, Iowa, where she ran the AAA office until retirement. She later married Eugene Romer and lived in Erie, Ill. After his death, Ruth moved to Fort Collins where she lived for the past 20 years. She volunteered at Poudre Valley Hospital, enjoyed playing golf, the organ and crocheting. She was an accomplished seamstress. Ruth was a wonderful homemaker and was a fabulous cook who was famous for her banana cream pie and date nut bread. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Michelle Sinnett. She is survived by her son, Ron Young Tracy of Fort Collins; and her daughter, Karen Hughes Roger of Loveland; her sister, Josephine Gerke and sister-in-law, Nell McPeck, both of Clinton, Iowa; her former daughter-in-law, Judy Young; grandchildren, Richard Hughes Cary, Dustin Hughes Lorna, Jeff Young Brady of Los Angeles and Chris Young Brenda of Fort Collins; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1730 W. 12th, Loveland. Father Joseph Hartman will officiate at the service.
