Ruth Barlow

Ruth Agnes MacFarlane Barlow, 100, of Estes Park passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006 at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park. Ruth was born July 3, 1906, in North Park, to early Colorado pioneers, Daniel and Mary MacFarlane, and at the age of 6, moved to Fort Collins with her family in a horse-drawn wagon. She married Donald DePere Barlow on Sept. 24, 1928, in Fort Collins. Donald preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1945. Ruth was a homemaker prior to her husband's illness and time of her husband's death, and then was employed by Gates Rubber Co. during WWII. The majority of her working career was in food service in University of Colorado fraternities and sororities in Boulder, Coffee Bar Caf ¬ and Elkhorn Lodge in Estes Park, Camp Shoshone, and Meeker Park Lodge near Allenspark. After retirement, she was a longtime Boulder resident; enjoying horticultural venues; including her own garden and the Denver Botanical Gardens. Ruth is survived by her children, Inez Larkin of North Platte, Neb., Lloyd Barlow of Albuquerque, N.M., and Richard Barlow of Louisville. She is also survived by grandchildren, Steve Pam Larkin, Estes Park, Phil Wendy Larkin, Boise, Idaho, Doug Larkin, Omaha, Neb., Sharon Larkin, Grape-vine, Texas, DeAn Ward, Sacramento, Calif., Kerry Roxanne Barlow, RioLinda, Calif., Lane Barlow, Sacramento, Calif., Kristen Ron Strawhand, Louisville, Joshua Barlow, Louisville, and Arianna Barlow, Glenwood Springs. Also included in those who will miss Ruth are 14 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and those who came to love her as "Grandma Ruth." Ruth will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan, with a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift of a fruit bearing tree will be planted on the grounds of Prospect Park Living Center.
