Russell Allen Hatfield, 92, of Wellington passed away November 29, 2012 at Spring Creek Health Care in Fort Collins. Mr. Hatfield was born October 19, 1920 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Monroe and Lillian Bittner Hatfield. Russell married Lydia Hettinger on May 7, 1944 in Kimball, Nebraska. They had been married sixty eight years. Mr. Hatfield was a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. He served with the 10th Mountain Division, 87th Infantry based at Camp Hale in Colorado near what is now Ski Cooper ski resort. After WWII Russ and Lydia lived in Eaton, Colorado, then moved to Wellington in 1957. Russ volunteered with the Wellington Fire Department as a firefighter and chief for many years. He owned and operated a TV and radio repair service, Russ's Conoco Service and Russ's Backhoe Service. He was also a part time school bus driver for Poudre School District for many years. He enjoyed being with friends and family, camping, fishing, telling jokes, and collecting pens and watches. Survivors include his wife, Lydia; sons, Steven, Randall and Thomas Hatfield Sally; brother, Ronald Hatfield; four grandchildren, Michelle Bothwell Darrell, Mike Hatfield, Christy Moore Mitch and Tara Hatfield; seven great-grandchildren, Mike, Kieyesia, Mariah and Brittney Bothwell, Cody, Braden and Brody Moore. Preceding Russell in death are his parents, Monroe and Lillian, son, Richard; sister, Carol; brother, Warren; and grandson, Brandon Hatfield. A Memorial Service will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel on December 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
